Team lifts and awkward loads

Two people lifting is not twice one person. It is one person plus everything they did not say.

Manual handling 10–15 min per run

A team lift fails on what nobody said out loud.

An awkward load needs two or three people, and from that point the risk is no longer the weight. It is that one of them lets go early, steps back into a rack, or lifts before the others because nobody agreed when.

This one is for anyone moving long, unbalanced or shared loads: panels, frames, castings, furniture. It is mostly about the talking, which is the part that always gets left out.

What a team does in it

One run, three parts. A team can go back to any of them as often as it needs, and most do.

  1. 1

    Agree before you lift

A team decides who leads, where each person stands, and the exact words they will use to start and to stop.

  2. 2

    Move it together

They carry a load through a doorway and round a corner, keeping the call going the whole way.

  3. 3

    Stop it mid carry

Something goes wrong halfway. They work on putting it down together rather than one at a time.

What is included

Manual handling

Team lifts and awkward loads

10–15 min per run

Included with every module

  • The training itself, repeated as often as you need.
  • Equipment supplied, maintained and replaced.
  • Attendance is recorded and exports into the records you already keep.
  • We run the first sessions with your team, then hand over.

Put it on your shortlist and we go through it together, with nothing to decide yet.

Next to it in the same cluster

Teams that meet this hazard usually meet the others on the same shift. The cluster page Manual handling holds all of them together.

Take one awkward load and move it with us.

Bring a load your teams dread. We go through the training against it, the same version your people would get.

What happens in the demo

  1. You pick the hazard From your own risk assessment, not from a demo script.
  2. We go through the training Start to finish, the same version your people would get.
  3. We look at your site Who would run it, on which shifts, and what a first group needs.
