Fire evacuation

An evacuation is practised twice a year and needed once. This is about the distance between those two.

Hazardous substances and fire 5–10 min per run

People leave the way they came in, not the way the plan says.

A drill announces itself. Everyone stands up, walks a route they already know, and the register comes back complete. None of that resembles the moment when smoke is in a corridor and one of the doors is not where people remember it.

This is the shortest training in the library and the one most teams run first. It is for everyone on site, and it takes less time than the gap between two meetings.

What a team does in it

One run, three parts. A team can go back to any of them as often as it needs, and most do.

  1. 1

    Notice it early

A team picks up the first sign before the alarm does: a smell, a door that is warm, a corridor filling up.

  2. 2

    Take the route that works

The nearest exit is blocked. They find the second one without walking back through the building to look for it.

  3. 3

    Account for everyone

At the assembly point somebody is missing. The team works through what happens in the next minute.

What is included

Hazardous substances and fire

Fire evacuation

5–10 min per run

Included with every module

  • The training itself, repeated as often as you need.
  • Equipment supplied, maintained and replaced.
  • Attendance is recorded and exports into the records you already keep.
  • We run the first sessions with your team, then hand over.

Put it on your shortlist and we go through it together, with nothing to decide yet.

Next to it in the same cluster

Teams that meet this hazard usually meet the others on the same shift. The cluster page Hazardous substances and fire holds all of them together.

Run one evacuation without stopping the shift.

Bring the floor plan you already use for drills. We go through the training against it, end to end.

What happens in the demo

  1. You pick the hazard From your own risk assessment, not from a demo script.
  2. We go through the training Start to finish, the same version your people would get.
  3. We look at your site Who would run it, on which shifts, and what a first group needs.
