Access routes and housekeeping, live site

On a live site the route to the work changes faster than anybody updates the plan.

Slips, trips and falls 10–20 min per run

The route on the plan is not the route people take.

A site plan shows where people should walk. What they do is take the shortest line to the work, over the material that was tipped there this morning and past the excavation that opened yesterday. Both are true at the same time.

This one is for site supervisors and gangers who have to keep a route usable while the site around it is still being built. It is about the daily gap between the drawing and the ground.

What a team does in it

One run, three parts. A team can go back to any of them as often as it needs, and most do.

  1. 1

    Follow the real route

A team walks the way people actually go rather than the way the plan says, and sees why they go that way.

  2. 2

Make the good route the short one

They move material, open a gate or re-route, so that the safe way stops costing anybody time.

  3. 3

    Hold it for a week

Deliveries and new works keep filling it back in. They work on keeping a route alive as the site changes.

What is included

Slips, trips and falls

Access routes and housekeeping, live site

10–20 min per run

Included with every module

  • The training itself, repeated as often as you need.
  • Equipment supplied, maintained and replaced.
  • Attendance is recorded and exports into the records you already keep.
  • We run the first sessions with your team, then hand over.

Put it on your shortlist and we go through it together, with nothing to decide yet.

Next to it in the same cluster

Teams that meet this hazard usually meet the others on the same shift. The cluster page Slips, trips and falls holds all of them together.

Walk the real route on one of your sites.

Bring a site that is running now. We go through the training against its own access routes, start to finish.

What happens in the demo

  1. You pick the hazard From your own risk assessment, not from a demo script.
  2. We go through the training Start to finish, the same version your people would get.
  3. We look at your site Who would run it, on which shifts, and what a first group needs.
