Forklift and pedestrian crossings

At a crossing both sides assume the other one has seen them. Usually one of them is right.

Internal traffic 10–20 min per run

Both sides assume the other one has seen them.

A driver has a load in front, a mirror behind and a route they know by heart. A pedestrian has a painted crossing and the belief that it means something. It works every day, which is why neither of them slows down at it.

This one is for drivers and for people on foot, and it is worth running with both in the same session. It puts each of them where the other one stands, in the moment before the crossing.

What a team does in it

One run, three parts. A team can go back to any of them as often as it needs, and most do.

  1. 1

    Stand on both sides

A team sees the crossing from the seat and from the floor, and finds out what the other one cannot see.

  2. 2

    Agree how you cross

They work out the signal that actually gets used, rather than the one written in the rules.

  3. 3

    Take the near miss

It goes wrong at low speed. They work through what each side does in the second that is left.

What is included

Internal traffic

Forklift and pedestrian crossings

10–20 min per run

Included with every module

  • The training itself, repeated as often as you need.
  • Equipment supplied, maintained and replaced.
  • Attendance is recorded and exports into the records you already keep.
  • We run the first sessions with your team, then hand over.

Put it on your shortlist and we go through it together, with nothing to decide yet.

Next to it in the same cluster

Teams that meet this hazard usually meet the others on the same shift. The cluster page Internal traffic holds all of them together.

Take one crossing and stand on both sides.

Bring a crossing that has had near misses. We go through the training against it, start to finish.

What happens in the demo

  1. You pick the hazard From your own risk assessment, not from a demo script.
  2. We go through the training Start to finish, the same version your people would get.
  3. We look at your site Who would run it, on which shifts, and what a first group needs.
